It is a well-known fact that both in the past as well as in the present ruling authorities, missionaries, NGOs and others have contributed substantially to the health of the tribes however a lot more needs to be done for this group. A three-day workshop that intends to bring together academics and grassroot workers and activists on a common platform to discuss and deliberate health development work for tribal India is being organized at the Center For Social Sciences, Surat.
The conference would see papers on themes such as indigenous healing systems, the impact of European and American Protestant Missionaries, the role of Indian Nationalists, faith healers, and self-employed doctors in improving the health of the tribes.
The conference would also welcome papers on the health concerns of scheduled tribes and poor rural communities.
