Festivals in September
There are several festivals that are held in the month of September.
- Janmashtami (2nd September) – There is a night long celebration of the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Though the main rituals of the festival are held at Mathura and Brindavan it is widely celebrated in many homes across the country
- Ganesh Chaturthi (11th September) – This is a celebration that honors Lord Ganesha on the occasion of his birth. It is celebrated all over India and especially in Maharashtra where there are grand celebrations held.
- Id ul Fitr (September 11th) – This is a celebration of the end of the month long Ramzan season of fasting among Muslims. This three day festival is celebrated upon the sighting of the moon. This day is celebrated with grand feasts and new clothes to mark the occasion.
