Bandhavgarh National Park
is located in the district of Madhya Pradesh in India. It is one of the largest national parks in the country. The biodiversity of this park is remarkable. It has a high density of tiger population. Bandhavgarh derives its name from a hillock in the area.Apart from the tiger, many other animals are also found in the park. They include the Chinkara, leopards, chital, Nilgai, Wild Boar, jackal, monkeys and hyenas. Bandhavgarh also attracts many migratory birds during the winter. The flora of the park includes Sal, Tendu, Arjun, Amla, Palas, mango and other varieties of trees.
Some of the popular tourist spots within the park are Gopalpur, a bird watching spot, Bari Gufa, a man made cave, Three Cave Point and Climber’s Point. Bandhavgarh Fort, considered by many as the oldest fort in India, is a prime tourist attraction.
The national park was included in the Project Tiger network in the year 1993. Tiger population in the park was reportedly 23 after June 2006. Tiger Photographic Safari is an option for tourists by which they can get a close view of the tiger.
Tours from Delhi to Bandhavgarh are available. A typical of this type may take six nights and seven days.
A number of resorts and lodges are present in Bandhavgarh for tourist accommodation. Tents and cottages, furnished with all modern amenities are also available.
Bandhavgarh is connected to major Indian cities like Delhi, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Khajuraho and Satna by a network of roads. Umaria is the nearest railway station. The nearest airport is at Khajuraho.
