The biggest of all tourist attractions in Kumbhalgarh is the Kumbhalgarh Fort. Nearly 64kms north from Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh Fort is cradled in the Aravali ranges. Built in 15th century by Rana Kumbha, the sprawling citadel on a hilltop is an impressive sight. The fort offers a panoramic view of the surrounding.
There are a number of interesting ruins around the fort complex along with magnificent palaces and an array of temples. The thick wall that encircles the fort has circumference of 36kms. The wall is as wide as to take eight horses abreast. The octagonal room where Rana Pratap Singh was born, the beacon tower from which a flame summoned Mewar's chieftains to war, castle-type cottages of Aohdi are major tourist attractions in Kumbhalgarh Fort.
Absence of royal grandeur and opulence becomes obvious as you visit the tourist attractions in Kumbhalgarh. The austere chambers, vast reservoirs, the easily defendable narrow staircases and the, unassuming garden court give you the clear impression that this was actually a warriors hide out.
Another important tourist attraction in Kumbhalgarh is the wild life sanctuary. Sprawling over an area of 586sqkms, the sanctuary is home to a variety of birds and animals. You may chance upon panther, sloth bear, wild boar, four-horned antelopes. The bird population includes flamingoes, sarus cranes, spoonbills, painted storks, cormorants, purple heron, egrets, duck, and rosy pelican in winter to name barely a few.
