Kushinagar is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. The place derives its significance from the event of Mahaparinirvana (salvation) of Lord Buddha.
Kushinagar, located close to Gorakhpur, is one of the major centers of Buddhist pilgrimage.

Nirvana Stupa – The Stupa is in the Nirvana Temple and is approximately 2.74 meters high. At this site, a copper vessel was unearthed.
Nirvana Temple – It houses a statue of reclining Buddha, about 6 meters long.
Rambhar Stupa – It is almost 49 feet high and marks the site of cremation of Lord Buddha.
Mathakur Shrine – The shrine lies close to the Parinirvana Stupa. Here a black stone image of Buddha was recovered.
Kushinagar Museum – Artifacts unearthed at the place are preserved here.
Japanese Temple – An Ashta Dhatu (eight metals) statue of Lord Buddha that came from Japan is kept here.
Buddha Vihar – It is the first monastery in Kushinagar.
Apart from the above, other places of tourist attraction are the Meditation Park, Wat Thai Temple, Birla Temple and Chinese Temple.

The nearest airport to Kushinagar is at Gorakhpur. The nearest railway station is also at Gorakhpur. Kushinagar is located on National Highway No. 28. It is well connected to the other parts of the state through roadways.
Buddhist Temple Tours and Pilgrimage Tours are conducted from Delhi, covering major North Indian cities, including Kushinagar. The tours are usually of 14-15 days' duration.
