Leh is one of the two districts that constitute Ladakh, the other being Kargil. It is a part of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Namgyal Tsemo Gompa is a monastery in Leh that attracts tourists in large number. It contains a huge Buddha image and some ancient manuscripts.

Leh trekking is an exciting option for tourists who love adventure sports. Popular trekking trails are from Spituk to Markha valley and from Likir to Temisgam. Trekking in Leh may also mean simply a long walk up the mountain slopes or a walk to the local monuments or monasteries. Ladakh jeep safari is also an option for tourists looking for some excitement. The jeep safari usually takes place from Manali to Leh. This journey is open from June to the end of September only.

Leh are the markets and bazaars where curios and souvenirs can be purchased. Shawls, stoles, woolen garments as well as Tibetan handicraft items like prayer wheels and Buddhist masks are also available in these places.
Leh Airport connects Leh to the rest of the country. So do the network of roads that connect Leh to Srinagar, Manali and Delhi.
